We’re getting ready a further update

Thank you all our customers for your patience whilst we remain closed. We are hopeful that we will receive a firm date for reopening from our Board soon.

Our plans for reopening are proceeding at pace and we will communicate these as soon as a date is confirmed.

I would like to give you a brief update about the current position.

Prior to lockdown, we had a number of exciting facility improvement projects, either in progress or pending. Sadly due to lockdown restrictions, these had to be put on hold and could only restart once restrictions had eased and the specialist contractors were available.

The nature of these works make it impossible to manage social distancing and safe operations for more than a very small number of elite swimmers. The definition of elite in the Welsh Government traffic light system being defined as athletes who have a realistic possibility of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, or medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

As part of the programme of changes mentioned above we are introducing improved access arrangements in reception. This involves structural changes to the area and the installation of access control gates. The majority of this work is now complete. This project is part of plans for a new sports and leisure partnership we are working on in collaboration with Swansea University and Swansea Council. We’ll be making some announcements in the near future about the partnership and the benefits of it for you.

We are also having an upgrade to our ventilation system, which will enhance the building’s comfort levels and increase fresh air supply to the building. This work will be of long-term benefit to you and all our other users. However, it requires unavoidable intermittent shut down of the current ventilation systems. In the context of the pandemic this cannot be done safely unless the building is closed to users. Consequently, it has limited our ability to re-open to all our members and casual swimmers. While this is unfortunate, we will not compromise on your safety or the safety of our staff.

It has been a challenging time for Wales National Pool Swansea and the leisure sector as a whole. We are passionate and proud about what we do and are very much looking forward to welcoming you back under our new socially-distanced arrangements as soon as possible. We hope this information is useful to you and we thank you again for your patience.

Take Care
